CFUW Call for Delegates

CFUW Call for Delegates – United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW)

From CFUW News & Updates November 3, 2014

The fifty-ninth session of the Commission on the Status of Women, will be held from March 9 – 20 2015 at United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The main focus of the session will be on the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, including current challenges that affect its implementation and the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of women. The Commission will undertake a review of progress made in the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, 20 years after its adoption at the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995. The review (Beijing+20) will also include the outcomes of the 23rd special session of the General Assembly, the first five-year assessment conducted after the adoption of the Platform for Action, which highlighted further actions and initiatives. The session will also address opportunities for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women in the post-2015 development agenda.

If you are interested in being part of the CFUW delegation, we would ask you to send your name by December 5, 2014 to Robin Jackson at cfuwed@rogers.com.

Delegates must arrange for their own transportation and accommodation at their own expense. It should be noted that the UN allows CFUW a limited number of participants so we may not be able to accommodate everyone. Additional information in the form of FAQs may be found here.

Our evening with Spectator Columnist Jeff Mahoney

Tuesday evening an enthusiastic group, braved the wet weather and joined us to listen as our guest shared the stories of a group of Hamilton women who certainly stepped into the beach during WWII.They were interesting, intriguing, intelligent and strong pioneers who led the way for women working in non traditional professions.
