Byran Prince Bookseller and CFUW Hamilton Modern Books

Bryan Prince Bookseller has once again generously offered to give a rebate to our Modern Books Group for any purchases made by CFUW members during December. If you are planning on shopping there during the month of December please identify yourself as a CFUW Hamilton member when you make your purchases so that the group can take advantage of the store’s generous offer.

Our Modern Book Group maintains it’s own lending library. The group meets at the homes of members in the evening on the 4th Tuesday of the month where they review and discuss newly released books. If you would like more information on the group please email us at

Support for INASMUCH House

Last week Action and Advocacy sent out an announcement advising that:

In support of the CFUW National’s direction for clubs to support their local women’s shelters that CFUW-Hamilton would offer our support to INASMUCH House locally by bringing personal care items and new clothing to our meetings for donation to the shelter.

A quick phone call to the shelter to ask what was currently most needed developed the following list:

Shampoo (adult and children’s brands)

Body Wash /Shower Gels

Women’s Sanitary Products (tampons and pads)

Please consider bringing something from the list to our next meeting.

CFUW Call for Delegates

CFUW Call for Delegates – United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW)

From CFUW News & Updates November 3, 2014

The fifty-ninth session of the Commission on the Status of Women, will be held from March 9 – 20 2015 at United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The main focus of the session will be on the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, including current challenges that affect its implementation and the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of women. The Commission will undertake a review of progress made in the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, 20 years after its adoption at the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995. The review (Beijing+20) will also include the outcomes of the 23rd special session of the General Assembly, the first five-year assessment conducted after the adoption of the Platform for Action, which highlighted further actions and initiatives. The session will also address opportunities for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women in the post-2015 development agenda.

If you are interested in being part of the CFUW delegation, we would ask you to send your name by December 5, 2014 to Robin Jackson at

Delegates must arrange for their own transportation and accommodation at their own expense. It should be noted that the UN allows CFUW a limited number of participants so we may not be able to accommodate everyone. Additional information in the form of FAQs may be found here.
