Notice of Motion
As most of you know CFUW voted to remain in GWI at the national AGM last year. At the last GWI triennial in August of 2016 the members voted to approve a fee increase which has now come into effect. This increase results in an additional charge of C$ 8.40 per member, and is due to be paid to GWI by June 30, 2018. CFUW has asked that any contributions toward these fees be paid to them by April 30, 2018. Our national organization did not address an increase in national dues at the 2017 AGM and consequently there is a short term financial difficulty caused by this fee increase.
The CFUW-Hamilton executive has approved a motion to pay the additional $8.40 per member to CFUW as a show of support for GWI and to help alleviate this short term problem. As required by our constitution we are circulating to all of our members this notice of motion which will be discussed and voted on at our February 20 meeting at 7:00 pm at Sackville Hill Seniors Centre.
The motion reads as follows:
Moved that CFUW-Hamilton pay the additional fees due to GWI for 2018 of $8.40 per member ($571.20) from the general fund by the due date of April 30, 2018.

Shawn’s talk will provide insight into the evacuation of 1,274 Inuit and Cree suffers of tuberculosis from the Eastern Arctic to Hamilton’s Mountain sanatorium from 1950- 1965. An important look at a difficult time in our country’s history.

Rural Women Survey – UNCSW62
CFUW will be sending a delegation to attend the sixty-second session of the Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW62) next March 2018.
This year’s priority theme: Challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls.
In preparation for this high-level meeting, CFUW wishes to collect data on its members’ perception of challenges and opportunities for rural women in Canada as well as on the experience of members living in rural settings.
The results will enable us to better prepare for this meeting and promote commitments from United Nations Member states that illustrate our members’ vision.

Resolution Intents AGM2018
The 2017-2018 Resolution cycle is underway!
To allow clubs to plan for speakers on Resolution topics, you can now consult the approved intents here . As per the Schedule for Resolutions, the deadline to send your intent is now closed. It is to be noted that intents do not guarantee a club will submit a resolution by deadline January 15.
REMINDER :
The deadline to submit the completed proposed Draft Resolution to resolutions@fcfdu.org is January 15, 2018. From January 15 – February 7, the Resolutions Committee will work with proposers to arrive at a final draft.
