Art Appreciation offers members the opportunity to visit local galleries, to study artists through papers given by members and to enjoy the company of the other members over the occasional lunch but always over art.

Action and Advocacy

2017-18 promises to be an interesting year for CFUW with regard to advocacy issues. In addition to continuing to advocate whenever possible on resolutions from past years, we have three main issues aris-ing out of the most recent AGM. CFUW will now be advocating for the right of First Nations Reserves to have access to safe, clean affordable drinking water and sanitation, and will be supporting the move for universal pharmacare in Canada. We have also voted to continue our membership in GWI but issues around fee increases have not yet been resolved.

Action and Advocacy will continue to support Inasmuch House next year. They provide an excellent home for women and their children in urgent need of housing.

If you are interested in working on advocacy for any of these issues for the upcoming year, or like the idea of researching and advising our club on new resolutions that are sent out, please contact us about joining our group, as we always welcome new members.

New Leadership Structure

As many of you know our nominating committee was not able to fill the position of president for 2017-18.

At our executive meeting on Tuesday, June 6 a decision was made to appoint a president (as outlined in our constitution) and form a team to share the responsibilities of leading our club. I am pleased to report that Myrtle Greve has been appointed to the position of Acting President. The leadership team will consist of Myrtle, Rosemary Knechtel (Vice President), and Debbie Welland (Past President).

It is our goal to develop a model for team leadership similar to ones that many other CFUW clubs across the country have adopted. Each club has its own identity, so although we will draw on the experiences of others, our model will be uniquely our own. We hope that this change will make it easier to attract new members to join the executive in the future.

Myrtle, Rosemary, and Debbie will be meeting within the next couple of weeks to discuss the division of tasks and prepare for next year. Myrtle will be attending the CFUW annual meeting and conference (June 23-24) as our representative.

Enjoy your summer, but be sure to make plans to attend the coffee party on September 19 at 7:00 p.m. at Sackville Hill where you will enjoy reconnecting with friends and hear more about our new leadership structure.
